Residuum
This can be used as a substitute for any material components with a gold value. 1 gram of residuum can be substituted for 1 GP worth of component
Active Residuum
“Residuum was a magical substance that was left behind whenever a magic item was disenchanted. Some described it as concentrated magic”
Market value: 5 GP per gram (per 1 GP gold value of component)
- This can be used as a substitute component, but cannot be used to enchant items as it is not pure.
- Can be refined and consumed to boost spellcasting potency, though doing so damages the brain (1d10 x spell tier psychic damage to user)
- Consume 10 grams: reroll 3 dice for a cast spell
- Consume 50 grams: reroll ANY NUMBER of dice for a cast spell
Inert Residuum
“Although not inherently magical, residuum is particularly receptive to arcane energies and therefore may be used to create objects that retain more powerful enchantments, perhaps for longer periods of time. It can also be utilized to replace and act as other expensive materials and components for spells and other uses.”
Market value: 10 GP per gram (per 1 GP gold value of component)
- This is most sought after by enchanters as it can be used to enchant items very easily. This is the only material needed to inscribe a magic circuit if enough is on hand (magic circuits otherwise take a variety of correctly matched trace ink - i.e. Copper powder, adamantine powder, etc.)
- Enchanters/artificers will often give a steep disgount to commissioned pieces if a rlient supplies inert residuum.
- Using this gives a higher rate of success for the enchantment (+3 to a roll made for enchantment)
- It can also be used as a substitute for spell components.
