A journal written by a technician at the Stabilizer Array encountered by Tira on her journeys.
It starts in 09/01 (year unknown). In the beginning, it’s rather mundane. Each day the author, Darphir, commuted to work from a place called Spoke K4-N3 to perform rather menial duties.
One random entry reads:
“12/2
The ride today was struck by turbulence. Falling in or out from the Spoke in one of my greatest fears. The gyro was behaving itself today, but God’s know how long until the next incident. Arrajatar says Oversight is sending artificers to add additional safety measures to the containment array. I think what they should add is a railing on the catwalk before someone falls in again. Morel has stolen Arrajatar’s lunch again, putting her in another bad mood. I cannot believe Morel would be so brazen again”
As the journal progresses, Darphir becomes more bitter about their job. Safety standards are low, even though they finally installed a railing. There was a break in by an unknown group who stole components and documentation. Management ordered security systems to be installed. The security systems functioned (resulting in a mashed patty of a thief’s remains being discovered one day when Darphir returned to work), but made working there even slower than before with constant security scans.
Darphir laments that the world is a freezing wasteland of raw metal, radiant waste, and near mindless constructs. It is lifeless and dreary as far as the eye can see, a far cry from the paradise that they had been promised
In one of the later entries, Darphir is excited that the constructors have finally started adding liquid water to the surface, creating a large lake or sea nearby. In the next entry, Darphir says they visited the lake on the surface, but it was frozen solid. Their dreams were dashed. They are considering leaving the Ring, but do not have the funds yet
