Carsia Symdel
Carsia (Sia) Symdel: A half elf friend of Tira’s studying Statistical Divination. Witty and cheerful, likes to ramble about her studies and likes to try new foods. Sia has short-ish brown hair, leaf green eyes, and is on the taller side (about 175cm or 5’11). Overall a pretty plain looking half elf. She often wears half circular glasses. The bottom halves are regular glasses, the top halves are connected to her number crusher (a small magical and mechanical calculator that functions as a spell focus) and display what is being entered. She also often wears a green half cloak with faint geometric patterns on the outside and formulas on the inside. She gives the impression of having come from a wealthy family, but doesn’t talk about it.
New Spells
- Through her Stasis dreams, Sia has learned some spells from a domain she hasn’t seen before
- The magic is akin to conjuration, but also different. Within Stasis, they manifest differently from on the Prime plane.
- Subspace Step (as thunderstep, with the option to deal damage or not)
- Subtemporal Acceleration (Tier 5) (as with Haste, but allows the casting of 2 full actions at once and lasts only 3 rounds)
- Voidwalker’s Passage (As passwall, though entering the ethereal plane after passing)
- Realspace Cascade (As magic missile, but 5ft radius on each. Same spell that killed them all on their first attempt to hack a part)
Story info
(from Dark Days - 7a)
Carsia has come to the island to visit Tira before heading far North. She has teleported to the Conjuration Tower at the Cheval Hall by breaking into the Conjuration Tower at the TTMRA and using the permanent circle there. She is disguised as an elf student with Nillen von Miaric in tow (disguised as a particularly pale elf with a wizard hat), and will take residence at the Roseleaf Inn in Brightlamp.
Sia is much more solemn and serious these days. She has single minded focus on her mission. Notable features: - Sia has a few visible scars on her arms and hands (from many explosions) - She also has a dark blue ring around her neck with a line that extends vertically down her clavicle (and in fact extends over her heart). It looks like some sort of smoky sapphire choker, but upon closer inspection appears to be embedded in her skin. (This is a DeathJumper, which she purchased at great expense and had tattood/installed after her first return to the mission. She does not remember who installed it or exactly when it was done, just that it was after Tira left and after their first return to Tezax). Cade also got one. She thinks it was probably from the TTMR Market. (As a matter of fact it was Verity who installed them.)
The situation with the research team… Carsia has left the research group in Zelestar. Not because of unethical practices or anything (that she remembers), but because she feels a higher calling - finding her digital doppelganger at the edge of the world. - It seems that the research mission was reaching its end. Cade and Kana worked extensively together on cracking the mysteries of GM4, which they found was a structure as well as a demiplane used to modulate mana flow through positive and negative weave pressure through its extrusion and inversion in and out of the material plane. - Cade and Sia worked together to write a thesis about the nature of certain Outsider cyphers. She feels confident that she’ll be able to crack a good deal of them with a bit of time, even the complex ones, since they follow a certain shifting pattern. - Kana is also taking a bit of a sabbatical to work on applying her research to some build project. Probably a larger scale modulator or something, Sia guesses. (The time ticks on Kana’s major project)
Sia’s wishes Sia was preparing to head out pretty much immediately after she got home. She terminated her lease, sent many of her belongings home or sold them, and got together some gear. However, she thinks she will actually take some time to unwind in Cheval for maybe a week before heading out - buying spells and additional gear. Money won’t be of as much use at the Edge after all.
Nillen hasn’t seen much of the world and is excited to look around as well. He is also happy to join the party on whatever shenanigans they get up to. It’s in his nature
Sia II’s intel Has told Sia I that she’s been in Limbo ever since the botched teleport, though it’s felt more like maybe 15 or so years. However, she has also told Sia that there is an entire archive of Cytgard within Static’s Domain. History of past and present, preserved from the memories of the denizens of the world throughout the ages (something that any monomaniacal wizard would love to delve into - a whole world that moves slower than the real to peruse, and to plumb its secrets in accelerated time).
Sia II has told Sia I that during her exploration of this digital realm, she has found places that she believes are nexuses for those within the world to flip over into the Prime world, and vice versa. Using those nexus points, one should be able to enter and leave at their leisure. The problem, she says, is that they are only accessible from the outside. (what she has not told Sia I is that it takes a host to jump into. Additionally, she wishes to free the souls trapped in Stasis by activating nodes across the Ring and allowing them all to jump to living bodies at once. It doubles a way to let all travel between Stasis and the Prime more easily)
Sia I seeks to find such a point, but first a key is required. Sia II is quite certain this is a dead Outsider god on the Northern Edge with a cypher key that can be used to access extremely high access level objects on the Ring. Sia II claims she’s not quite sure what sort of god it is, but that it’s extremely clear within Stasis. One of the most real objects she can perceive, so it’s clearly linked. She’s described it as looking like a giant furry creature of some sort, buried in ice at the edge of a vast, dark lake. She cannot get close to it, but it’s north, towards a Void Sea she thinks.
Sia II is also confident that one node to access Stasis from the Prime is far to the south, at the true, actual edge of the world (on the Diamond Spar ‘N97s’, deep beneath the ice…). Sia I knows this will be a long journey, but with the amount of accelerated time she’s be able to use, it will surely be a good tradeoff.
Sia I has experienced dreams of Stasis, similar (apparently) to what Tira experienced in Zelestar as well, guided by Sia II. Each time they grow more vivid, and she is able to explore a wider area, though details are fuzzy. She’s also glimpsed the dead wolf-god, though it’s very unclear and distant to her. She believes that if she were to physically enter the Domain through a nexus point, the world would be real and clear, not just like the dreamlike state she’s able to see now
- Through these dreams, Sia has also learned some spells from a domain she hasn’t seen before
- The magic is akin to conjuration, but also different. Within Stasis, they manifest differently from on the Prime plane.
- Subspace Step (as thunderstep, with the option to deal damage or not)
- Temporal Acceleration (as with Haste, but allows the casting of 2 full actions at once for 3 turns. 2 turn casting time, 5th tier)
- Voidwalker’s Passage (As passwall, though entering the ethereal plane after passing), 4th tier
- Realspace Cascade (As magic missile, 1d6 force, but 5ft radius on each. Same spell that killed them all on their first attempt to hack a part. 3rd level)
- Sia may show Tira these notes on the spells, but they are totally illegible and incomprehensible. Apparently she wrote these down as soon as she woke up from her dreams.
