The Cheval Airship Docks are a bustling hub of activity situated on the outskirts of the isle. Built into the edge of the island, the docks are renowned for their architectural marvels and the majestic airships that call them home. Here, travelers and traders from distant lands arrive and depart, adding to the city’s vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere.

There is a main travel route between the Docks and Cheval City which is fully paved, with 4 divided lanes, similar to the BC ferry terminal closest to the docks.

The docks consist of several distinct areas of interest:

1. The Skyport Terrace

  • Description: The Skyport Terrace is the primary landing area for airships. It’s a vast, flat expanse perched on the edge of the cliff, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. The landing platform is constructed from magically reinforced marble and steel cables, ensuring the stability of the airships. It is surrounded by ornate stone railings adorned with protective runes, as well as statues and miniature dioramas of locations on the isle.
  • Notable Features:
    • The Windward Beacon: A towering, enchanted lighthouse stands at the edge of the terrace. It emits a powerful light and illusory script visible for miles, guiding airships safely to their docking spots, even in the darkest of nights.
    • The Whirlwind Aegis: This massive bronze wind sculpture of an elven warrior with ripsword and buckler at the center of the terrace not only serves as a mesmerizing piece of art but also functions as a weather vane, alerting airship captains to sudden wind changes. Legend has it that the statue is actually a golem, though this hasn’t been verified.
    • Transfer warehouses: Moderately sized and well guarded warehouses are located near each aeropier for ships to unload their goods into.

2. The Aetherium Hangars

  • Description: The Aetherium Hangars are a series of colossal, semi-circular caverns hollowed into the cliffside. These hangars house the airships when they are not in use. Each hangar can accommodate multiple airships, and their interiors are lined with luminescent crystals that bathe the vessels in an otherworldly glow.
  • Notable Features:
    • The Crystal Veil: A shimmering curtain of crystalline formations stretches across the entrance to each hangar. It serves as a protective barrier against inclement weather and potential threats.
    • The Ether Forge: An adjacent workshop equipped with arcane contraptions, the Ether Forge is where airships receive maintenance, repairs, and enchantments. Skilled artificers and engineers work diligently, ensuring the airships are in top condition.

3. The Cliffside Tunnels

  • Description: Carved into the rock beneath the docks are a network of narrow tunnels known as the Cliffside Tunnels. These tunnels serve as both a transportation system and a marketplace where rare and exotic (though not necessarily valuable) goods are traded. They wind deep into the cliffside, creating an intricate maze.
  • Notable Features:
    • The Echoing Bazaar: Generally attended by indie traders. At the heart of the tunnels lies the Echoing Bazaar, an underground market illuminated by bioluminescent fungi and crystals. Here, merchants peddle enchanted trinkets, mysterious relics, and rare herbs, their voices mingling with the soft echoes of the cavern.

4. The Aeolus Balcony & Shipping Guild Tower

  • Description: Perched high above the Skyport Terrace, the Aeolus Balcony is a balcony-style promenade along the Shipping Guild’s Tower. It’s a place for spectators to marvel at the graceful ballet of airships taking off and landing. The balcony is adorned with statues of legendary aviators and explorers. The balcony can be accessed from the outside of the tower and is open to the public. It provides a good view of the Terrace too.
  • Notable Features:
    • The Aeolian Breeze: A natural phenomenon created by the tower’s shape, the Aeolian Breeze provides a constant, gentle wind that billows the flags and banners decorating the balcony. It’s said to bring good luck to those who stand in its embrace.
    • The Navigator’s Perch: A raised stone platform on the balcony offers a panoramic view of the skies and the city below. It’s a favored spot for captains and navigators to plan their routes and take celestial readings before setting sail.

The Cheval Airship Docks are a testament to the city’s innovation, blending natural beauty with magical engineering. They are not just a transportation hub but a testament to the city’s commitment to the wonders of the skies and the mysteries of the underground.
