RCHP - Research Center for Historical Preservation

A medium sized research guild based in Tezax Outlook with the stated goal of retrieving magical and mundane artifatcts in order to study and preserve them. They hire adventurers/mercenaries to accompany their expeditions within and beyond the Acidalia Region. Higher ranking research members of the guild have different specific areas of study and pursuit, and assemble their expedition teams themselves. They make periodic reports to the guild headquarters during their travels, but other than that, they have little oversight and plenty of autonomy. The guild is satisfied if they yield results and no complaints.

The guild occasionally attempts to reverse engineer particularly useful artifacts that are retrieved on expeditions, modify them, and sell them on the open market. Profits for these things are usually large, and discoverers as well as engineers get a generous royalty on units sold.

Notable discoveries by the RCHP:

  • The Void Crossers: vessels capable of crossing the void at great speed. A way to steer them is yet to be found - vessels tested have so far all been lost

  • Rapid Rest Regenerators: Also known more widely as a Periapt of Wound Closure. These have succesfully been reverse engineered and miniaturized

  • Outside Observatory: A structure near the Edge that contains a multitude of crystal spheres, allowing users to peer into what appear to be areas of the Outside of the ring. Some appear to scry directly on Outside entities, while some have a fixed view of unidentifiable locations and structures. Information about this has not been made public.

  • Resonant Resistors: A material found to be able to partially dispell certain magical elements based on how it was treated. This has been researched thoroughly and turned into Rings of Resistance, and can be found on the open market.

  • Gain Modulator Zero: believed initially to be an artifact or entity that could increase raw magical potency within a specific area. It was later discovered that this entity is intelligent and currently lays dormant due to damage early in the Ring’s history. It asesses magical distribution across regions of the world and adjusts magic particle density accordingly to balance distribution of magic. If re-activated, it could cause untold damage over time by changing magical density in magically dependant regions.

    • This entity was discovered by Arkhana Silverfrond, who led an expedition to find it and see if they could make use of its ability and circumvent its judgement. Some members of the expedition found out about the rather serious drawbacks if it were to awaken and they failed to control it.
    • A large scroll was discovered during the expedition that was believed to be a bit like a manual for Gain Modulator Zero, though it was extremely complex to operate and hard to decipher (written in a very ancient language with a very ancient UI)

Notable Members:

  • Arkhana Silverfrond: one of the highest ranking researchers interested in enhancing magical capability.

  • Cade Aradiol: A sharp but abrasive high elf numeromancer with a wide skill set. Arkhana’s assistant.

  • Tira Misu: A skilled linguist lore bard. Stole research notes and an important scroll from their expedition bag of holding and ran away.
