‘Verity’ Silverlight
‘Verity’ Silverlight was once a powerful and influential wizard in the Mirror Sea region. She published under a variety of pen names and co-wrote papers sometimes under her own name. She studied and experimented with free mana and the foundations of magic. Verity was not cruel, but was unempathetic and had little concern for the wellbeing of others during her studies and experimentation (testing mana boosting and cancelling curses on ill informed volunteers, her experimental atmospheric harvesting arrays causing mana feedback for nearby settlements, etc.). Interestingly though, Verity took it upon herself to take on a good number of students (under different pseudonyms) in order to bolster the interest in the arcane as she believed the study of all forms of magic was essential to healthy life/civilization on the Ring.
In her later years (65+), Verity took a break from that line of research, and turned to searching for a means to eternal life in order to continue. She settled on lichdom (as it was not much different from what she was already up to), and spent about 15 years researching the topic and assembling the required materials. She found that using certain Outsider components would allow her to keep her mind and create a much more soul efficient Phylactery. During this time, Verity created a sim-clone (possibly the first such construct in recent remembered history) to assist her. The simulacrum clone Arkhana Silverfrond (play on arcana) was a nearly direct copy of her mind and shared her ambitions. It was extremely clever though, plotting to replace her during its time serving her and in stasis (placed in vault of amber when not needed). By this time Verity had a few replacement/prosthetic body parts from a variety of magical/mundane mishaps. The clone Arkhana was fresh.
At some point during her research, a rival and former research colleague by the name of Asheon Silvyr (The Defiled) (or at least he considered himself a rival - Verity had no interest in him) caught wind of what she was up to, and attempted to hi-jack her research about lich conversion and beat her to the punch of becoming immortal with minimal strings attached. Venity noticed his covert interest and laid false notes for him to find. He attempted to replicate them and turned himself into a Nothic.
During the critical point of lich conversion, Verity was to consume a specific poisonous potion to prepare her soul for binding. Arkhana replaced it with a standard slow acting poison, modified her memory to make her believe that she was the sim-clone (and to be grateful for being given life, subservient to her progenitor, and to have some damn empathy, etc.). Upon death her soul was transferred to another mundane clone and then kept in stasis. Arkhana consumed the binding potion and underwent the lich transformation instead, claiming to be a descendant of Verity’s. She joined the TTMR academy, rose through the ranks, and then ended up working for the RCHP to continue her research on all things magical as well as teaching. A dream come true!
In the meantime, ‘Verity’ was put to work as a lab and office assistant. When she wasn’t working she was in an Amber Vault. She was treated very poorly by a few members of the TTMRA and some other associates of Kana’s that she had business dealings with.
- Carpha Kragmaul - Duergar Dwarf trader (Icelake)
- Akkar Parfir - Brass Dragonborn TTMR admin (killed, Tezax)
- Luvon Aewynn - Full Elf mage (Dulcet Quay)
- Zaos Pasandoral - Human mercenary (Dozey Town)
Silverlight Labs
A hidden laboratory somewhere in the Mirror Sea region where Verity spent most of her time when she wasn’t in the field. The lab is furnished with a cloning chamber, the Phylactery tomb, Amber Vault, a large amount of priceless equipment and components, and a stash of the most interesting items found by Arkhana on expeditions that she does not want to share with the RCHP. It also has a cozy 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom halfling home on the surface level, complete with a bath, vegetable garden, and conservatory.
Verity currently spends a good deal of time it the Silverlight Labs in stasis until she is needed to handle Arkhana’s affairs while she re-forms from the Phylactery. The lab is patrolled by Manifesting Mana Constructs (which appear to be ghosts or spirits that haunt the abandoned house). These almost always scare away passers by, and capture and contain the nosiest ones in the Amber Vault below for Arkhana’s judgement.
